Webinar: Let’s Talk Communication in Group Living: Considerations, Inclusion, and Activities

Aug 22, 2022 | News, Webinars

Besides family and close friends, direct support professionals (DSPs) can be the most important people in the lives of the people they support. This is especially true for individuals that reside in group homes. From the moment the residents wake up, until the end of the day when they go to sleep, the group home staff support the individuals with their daily needs. What can sometimes be overlooked is an individual’s communication needs. The communicating of wants and needs, as well as being able to engage socially are just as important as the typical needs that DSPs provide. In this month’s Let’s Talk, International Journal for Direct Support Professionals’ authors Kimberly Forest and Allia Canzio address the considerations that DSPs need to take when communicating with the people that they support. They will discuss how to ensure inclusion within all levels of communicators, and activities that promote communication that can easily be integrated into daily living.

This webinar is a companion to this month’s International Journal for Direct Support  article, “Communication in Group Living: Considerations, Inclusion, and Activities.”
