NADSP’s 2024 DSP Week Webinars

by | Sep 8, 2024 | News

We’re not ready to let go of summer quite yet but National Direct Support Recognition Week is just around the corner! DSP Week, as it’s recognized by some is September 8 – 14, 2024. With NADSP not holding an in-person conference this year we wanted to share that we will be hosting three days of free webinars for direct support professionals. Each webinar highlights a current topic for discussion in the workforce. Also – any direct support professional that attends these webinars will be entered to win a $100 gift card. Please note this giveaway is for DSPs who spend more than 50% of their working hours providing direct support.

DSP Week Webinars

Coverage Should Be On Floors, Not Human Beings!

September 10|  2:00pm – 3:00pm ET

A strong, trusted, and supportive bond between two people in a partnership often leads to positive and successful outcomes. This is the essence of being “person-centered.” However, achieving a truly person-centered approach is challenging in a system heavily reliant on “coverage.” There is no substitute for a consistent, permanent direct support professional (DSP) relationship.

While substitute DSPs can make a significant impact, we often fail to adequately prepare them. We need to find more advanced and respectful methods to develop and employ DSPs who provide coverage. Join seasoned self-advocates Bob Peterson and John Raffaele as they discuss and offer resources to help substitute DSPs deliver more person-centered coverage.

Direct Support Professionals & the 2024 Election

September 11 | 2:00pm – 3:00pm ET

Join NADSP President and CEO Joe Macbeth for a free webinar focusing on the 2024 National Election. As a 501(c)(3) organization, NADSP cannot support or oppose any candidates for public office. However, we are committed to providing direct support professionals and others with accurate information about disability-related issues and the voting process.

NADSP’s Senior Policy Advisor, Nicole Jorwic, will present a non-partisan review of each candidate’s platform concerning Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS), Long-Term Care, Medicaid/Medicare, and strategies to address the caregiving workforce crisis. Additionally, NADSP’s Director of Educational Services, John Raffaele, will share important insights on how direct support professionals can assist people with disabilities in the voting process by providing unbiased information and answering questions impartially.

Join us for this valuable discussion on the United States Election.

The Impact of Certification on DSP: Recognition that Lasts A Lifetime

September 12 | 2:00pm – 3:00pm ET

Certification is important for several reasons. It serves as a formal recognition of a person’s knowledge, skills, and competencies, and it often plays a crucial role in career development, quality assurance, and industry standards. The NADSP E-Badge Academy is a significant step towards professionalizing and elevating the role of DSPs and ensuring that those in the field are recognized for their invaluable work.

This session will feature a panel of different perspectives on why certification is important. We’ll hear from a direct support professional, a local administrator who oversees the E-Badge program at their agency and from an Executive. Each will share the impact certification has had at their agency. Hosted by Director of Certification and Accreditation, Dan Hermreck.
