Join John Raffaele, Director of Educational Services, NADSP, for a free interactive virtual training session that will explore the revised NADSP Code of Ethics. This engaging session will offer participants a glimpse into the full NADSP Code of Ethics Curriculum and explore how ethical principles guide direct support professionals in everyday practice. Participants will examine the role of ethics in supporting people with disabilities to live self-directed lives rooted in dignity, rights, choice, and inclusion.
Training Description:
The NADSP Code of Ethics serves as a practical guide for direct support professionals as they navigate complex decisions, honor the preferences and rights of the people they support, and strengthen professional practice. During this three-hour virtual training, participants will be introduced to the 2026 revised Code of Ethics and invited to consider how its principles connect to real-world direct support scenarios. The session will also preview key themes and learning activities from the full NADSP Code of Ethics Curriculum, giving participants a meaningful introduction to deeper ethical reflection, discussion, and application.
Summary of Curriculum
The full NADSP Code of Ethics Curriculum is designed to help organizations move the Code of Ethics from a set of guiding principles into everyday direct support practice. The curriculum prepares trainers and facilitators to introduce the Code, explore why it matters for direct support professionals and the people they support, and connect ethical decision-making to daily services, supports, and organizational culture. Through discussion, reflection, real-world examples, and practical application, participants examine how the Code can strengthen person-centered support, advocacy, confidentiality, respect, professionalism, and the ongoing development of a values-based direct support workforce.

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Describe the purpose and significance of the NADSP Code of Ethics in guiding direct support practice.
- Identify ways ethical principles support dignity, rights, choice, inclusion, and person-centered decision-making.
