Dear Colleagues,

Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives agreed to adopt the Senate version of the Reconciliation Act—a version even more damaging than the bill originally passed by the House. This legislation will cut over a billion dollars from Medicaid, directly harming disability programs and putting the jobs of thousands of Direct Support Professionals at risk.

As House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries said so clearly, this bill represents “an unconscionable attack on the most vulnerable among us.” We share that view. NADSP is deeply disappointed that Congress has chosen this path, ignoring the voices of people with disabilities, their families, and the professionals who support them every day.

While this is a difficult moment, please know that NADSP remains committed to standing with you. We will do everything in our power to help members and local disability organizations navigate the ramifications of this legislation. We will also continue to work with our partners—state disability associations, provider organizations, and advocates across the country—to protect existing services to the best of our collective abilities.

Now, more than ever, we must stay united, support each other, and keep fighting for the respect and resources that Direct Support Professionals and the people they support deserve.

With respect and resolve,

Joe Macbeth
President and CEO
National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals
