Let’s Talk: Sexuality and Healthy Relationship Knowledge is Power

Feb 6, 2025 | Events, News, Webinars

Many Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) often wonder whether they should discuss sexuality and healthy relationships. Some DSPs may not view individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) as sexual beings or may fear that discussing sexuality could lead to negative outcomes. However, the opposite is true. All people are sexual beings, and the lack of education can contribute to harmful situations. Knowledge empowers and protects, while ignorance does not.

This month, on the Let’s Talk webinar, Katherine McLaughlin joins NADSP’s John Raffaele to discuss her International Journal for Direct Support Professionals article Sexuality and Healthy Relationship Knowledge is Power and Protection; Ignorance is Not Bliss.” John and Katherine will explore practical ways DSPs can support the individuals they work with and empower them.

ASL interpretation and closed captions will be available during the webinar. For previous issues of The International Journal for Direct Support Professionals, click here.
