Let’s Talk: Summertime and The Living Should Be Easy: Supporting People with Significant Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in Summer Activities

Jul 16, 2025 | Events, News, Webinars

This month’s Let’s Talk is all about the current season. Summer. Pools. Beaches. Cookouts. Camping. Summer is often seen as a time of rest, relaxation, and fun. It is a season marked by sunny days, outdoor adventures, and all types of fun community events. For people with significant intellectual and developmental disabilities, however, access to meaningful summer experiences is not always a given. Barriers like transportation challenges, communication needs, adaptive equipment shortages, accessible environments, and various types of health and safety concerns can create obstacles. This should not deter anyone from enjoying the summer.

John Raffaele will be joined by special guests for our next Let’s Talk webinar to discuss this month’s International Journal for Direct Support Professionals. John authored this month’s article, “Summertime and The Living Should Be Easy: Supporting People with Significant Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in Summer Activities.

ASL interpretation and closed captions will be available during the webinar. For previous issues of The International Journal for Direct Support Professionals, click here.
