ACL Announces NADSP as First Round Winner in Workforce Solutions Challenge

WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 6, 2021): The Administration for Community Living (ACL) announced this week, that the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP) has been selected as a first round winner for the Blazing New Trails for Community-Based Direct Support Professionals Challenge. The NADSP is one of five winners who have presented proposals for innovative solutions to address workforce issues.

As part of this competition, the NADSP proposed the NADSP E-Badge Academy as a solution to strengthen the direct support professional workforce and improve the quality of home and community-based services (HCSBS) for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD).

Guided by the words of our ideological founder, John F. Kennedy Jr., the NADSP believes that “Quality is defined at the point of interaction between the staff member and the individual with a disability.”  Reaching Quality isn’t accidental. Quality is most often achieved it at the point of interaction when a direct support professional demonstrates their knowledge, skills and values – these are the foundations on which the NADSP’s E-Badge Academy was built.

The Blazing New Trails for Community-Based Direct Support Professionals Challenge consists of three phases of competition in an effort to strengthen the field of direct support . Proposals must aim to stabilize and expand the size and capability of the direct support professional workforce.  At each phase, the winning innovations receive a cash prize to further their initiatives and the second round will require a small-scale testing of the proposal.
